The Warorot Market Kad Luang is in the heart of Chinatown in Chiang Mai old town. It is a wonderful indoor/outdoor market that is only open during the day.

Fun fact the locals know this market as Kad Luang or กาดหลวง, and it translates to the big market.  I also have put together my favorite spots for Chiang Mai nightlife!

You can find the address to the Warorot Market  Right Here.

What to do at Warorot Market

There is plenty to do at this day market in Chiang Mai.

The first thing to do at Warorot Market is walk around the outskirts. This is so much fun and everyone is very relaxed. It is not like markets in other countries where everyone is yelling at you to buy things. The owners here just give you a sweet smile and a nod.

After you have walked around the outside head to the enclosed section and explore there. Inside on the first floor is mostly just food but there are a few stands with goods as well.

The second floor is where you will find an old shopping mall with souvenirs to buy. Take your time at the Warorot Market Kad Luang you are going to love it!

What is at the Chiang Mai Walking Market

The Warorot Market is full of everything you could ever want. They have fresh and hot local food, fruits, vegetables, clothes, hats, shoes, spices, yummy Thai drinks and so much more.

You can get your nails, hair, and eyebrows, or grab a Thai massage here too!

A good rule of thumb is if you cannot find it at the Warorot Market, you probably won’t find it anywhere.

Do not get overwhelmed though, take your time walk around slowly, and just take in all the vibes. The culture in Thailand is rushed, quiet chaos so just embrace it!

What to Eat at Warorot Market

Warorot Market is one of the best food markets in Chiang Mai. There are plenty of stands to choose from but the most popular one is Dam Rong. You will have no problem finding the stall it is in the middle of the food hall and there is usually a crowd.

You will want to try the local sausage known as sai ua. This is a local delicacy and it is not like your typical sausage. It is filled with fresh green herbs. It is incredibly refreshing and light.

The super nice ladies at the stand will cut it up for you, or you can buy a big prepackaged sausage to take home. Check out more of the food in Chiang Mai!

Another must-try is the fried pork chops or the moo tod. You do not have to order the whole piece, just try a half. It is battered lightly with a salt and pepper flavor. They will cut it up for you and you can eat it right there. Or go for the whole thing, it is so good you won’t regret it.

You also will want to order yourself some sticky rice to wash it all down!

crispy pork

There are also plenty of stands with the famous crispy shrimp or fried pork skin which are additively good. Be careful because before you know it you eat the whole bag.

After you have found yourself a few snacks find yourself a drink from one of the stands. They have smoothies, Thai teas, bubble teas, coffees, and Italian sodas that are super popular around here too.

Another thing to eat at the Warorot Market is the soup dishes. Head to the very back of the enclosed building and you will see the permanent stand there serving up some of the best food in Chiang Mai. Don’t want to cook your own food? I have put together a restaurant in Chiang Mai guide!

What to Buy in Warorot Market

At the Chiang Mai market, you can find plenty of different things to buy. The outside of the enclosed market is where you will find the biggest variety of goods. Inside is mostly food and prepackaged food.

You can find men’s and women’s clothes, homemade and unique patterns, Chinese and Japanese traditional garments, cheap shorts, fashionable dresses, and button-up and tee-shirts.

If you want to snag some fruit you will want to hit the market on the corner near 7-Eleven. This has the best deals and freshest fruit.

You can find the famous loose elephant Thai pants here too!!

This Chiang Mai gate market has shoe shops, weed in Chiang Mai, homemade bags, fashion jewelry, gold, beautiful diamonds, and just about everything in between.

Where to Get the Best Deals at the Warorot Market

The outside of the market is where you will find the best deals on produce. There were strawberries inside that were 200 Baht a bag and on the outside right around the corner, they were around 40 baht.

But if you find something you love just get it because you are going to wish you did. Everything in Thailand is much cheaper than in the US market anyway.

Also, some of the vendors will give you a discount if you buy more than just one prepacked item. Try asking them for a bundle deal, you might just get lucky!

Other Things About the Best Food Market Chiang Mai

If you did not get a car rental in Chiang Mai or have your own scooter you do not have to worry. There are the classic truck taxis and tuk-tuks, or order yourself a grab and get dropped off.

You will see a few representatives from the local tribes dressed up and asking for donations as well. If you can donate you absolutely can, or not. They are super chill about it either way.

There are bathrooms here to use. They cost 3 Baht (08¢) as a service charge and they are clean.

Pro-tip though, ALWAYS carry toilet paper with you in your day bag while traveling throughout Thailand. Seriously. Do. It.
