Hike to the top of the Tiger Cave

One of the best things to do in Krabi town has to be to the Tiger Cave. It is ironic that this hike is a “cave” because, in reality, you are hiking up 1237 steps to the top of Khao Phra Bat. When you arrive you can head straight back to the hike, or take your time walking through the Wats, statues, and stores along the way. It is free to park and do the hike, but there is a donation box if you can share.

Along the Tiger Cave Hike, you work almost straight the entire time up the steps. Wear your tennis shoes, sandals are not recommended. You can get through the hike in sandals but you will not be comfortable. Once you finally reach the top you will be able to see the Andaman Sea, mountain ranges, and the lush green tropical forest.

Plan for the hike up and down alone to take you two to three hours, and you will want to stay at the top and take it all in for a while as well. Be careful of the monkeys, they will steal your belongings. If you are planning to stay for sunset be prepared to walk down the steep stairs in the dark. Bring a headlamp and make sure your phone is charged enough. Some monkeys live close to the forest that comes out at night.

Put the tiger cave high on your list of free things to do in Krabi town. It is so much fun and you can indulge in a yummy burger or pasta after and not feel bad about it.

Longtail Boat Ride to Railay Beach

One of the best things about Krabi is all of the beaches and Railay is always at the top of the list. It is right outside of Ao Nang and should only take you a few minutes to get there. But, the catch is that you can only take a long-tail boat over. No worries about booking a boat, they leave all day long and cost 100 baht per person per way.

A pro tip is to only book your ticket one way because if you book a return ticket for the same day they give you a return time. Instead, book a one-way ticket from both beaches. It is the same price and it is much more flexible. Bring snacks and drinks if you want, but there are places on Railay where you can purchase snacks, and drinks, or sit down for a full meal.

There are also beautiful beachside resorts and hotels on Railay. Which was a surprise because it seems rather small. Try staying a night or two you will not regret it. Do not miss out on taking a longtail boat to Railay is one of the most fun things to do in Krabi town!
